WHO WE ARE
On 28th February 2001, thanks to many kind-hearted souls, the seeds of "NESAM" were sown. Today it is a healthy sapling and our aim is to nurture it to become a sturdy tree, capable of giving shelter to many.
At Nesam, the thrust has always been on enriching life and creating happy moments for fellow human beings. Ours has been an arduous journey, but punctuated with moments of immense satisfaction through various actitivites through which we extend our combined helping arm for noble causes.
Our activities include educational services, healthcare, community services and support for single and destitute women.
Ms. Prema, our Founder Trustee is a single woman and a retired employee of SBI. An accident leading to hip fracture in 1999 made her realise that she should give something back to the soceity. She founded NESAM in 2000 and registered it in 2001.
Our Honoraray Members include Late Smt. Muthu Zuleikha Rahman, who was helping Nesam generously until her death in 2006, Ms. Thamarai, Poet Dr.Shakuthala Sureshkumar, Psychiatrist and Mr. P.Selvakumar, retired AGM at SBI.
Apart from our organisational team members listed in this page, most of the Nesam's field operations are carried out by our youth team.
Financial aid to the needy
We extend financial support to the intellectually rich but financially poor. Nesam distributes school writing blocks, school bags etc., to the underprivileged kids. Nesam acts as as educational parent to children who are poor but outstanding in studies and take over their educational expenss upto school or college level. Many such children, who got our support are now well placed in life and turning up for NESAM to help the society.
Free Study Centers
Every year Nesam conducts free study centers for the needy and deserving school going children. The study centers act as workshops where the children learn in a friendly atmosphere from experts.
Financial aid towards medical expenses
Nesam contributes to the health and welfare of the needy by financially aiding their medical treatment. We also provide wheelchairs for the people from poor background.
Blood Donation Camps
BLOOD DONOR CLUB
Nesam has a blood donors club where every willing individual can become a member and work towards a common cause. The interested can provide their blood group and contact information here.
BLOOD DONATION CAMPS
Every year Nesam organises a blood donation camp for the members of the club and other volunteers. The schedule will be posted under "Upcoming Events" on our news and events page.
Bringing Festivity to the Orphanage Children
NESAM DAY
Every year in the month of October, when Nesam celebrates its "Nesam Day", we gather 200 to 1000 children from various orphanages and homes such as Ches, a home for HIV Positive children, Jeroham Children Home, Karunai Illam and St. Joseph's Home and take them to amusement parks.
CHRISTMAS AND NEWYEAR CELEBRATIONS
Every December Nesam celebrates Christmas and Newyear with such children. The main idea is to bring joy and fesitivity to the underprivileged children. Over the years many prominent celebrities have graced this annual event with their presence. We would like to thank Udhayam Kalyana Mandapam, Ashok Nagar for offering their function hall for the celebrations and G Mime Studio for their constant support in providing Mime shows, SBI and D&A Events for their valueable contributions and event organisation.
Summer camps for slum children
Every summer Nesam conducts "Arts & Crafts Camp" for the underprivileged children, who cannot afford to pay for such camps. Around 100 children participate every year in the camp and benefit from the courses.
The children are taught to make simple handicrafts such as pen stands with ice cream sticks, mail holder in jute, greeting card making, clay pot painting, kundan stones for decorations and crystal tree making with crystal beads and gold strings.
Independence day with War Widows welfare Association
Nesam strongly believes that the real heroes of the nation are those who guard our boundaries and protect our nation. It is of greater importance to recognise these selfless heroes. The soldiers who sacrifice their lives for the cause of our nation should be regarded as high as possible.
The families of living and late soldiers should also be credited for their sacrifice. Nesam celebrates the independce day every year with widows of soldiers who lost their precious lives in wars for the welfare of our nation.
Leading Light - Support for single women
Women empowerment and women welfare are very critical to our society. Nesam cares about single women, who in our society face major hurdles to come up. Nesam supports single women and acts as a leading light for their bright future.
Nesam involves in many projects towards the empowerment of single women. It includes aid towards their education, professional training, aid towards setting up their own businesses etc.,. In this regard, we started our own "Community Center" which empowers single and destitute women by offering them professional training. Read more here >>
